Athletic Mind Attitude

The following was taken from the back outside cover of Aging, Health, and the Athletic Mind Attitude - A Game Plan for Aging and Health Challenges.

At age 58, Monty Cartwright was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Mantel Cell Lymphoma.  During his forty-year career as an athletic coach and health educator, he had learned about the importance of attitude and being a competitive athlete.  In this book, Monty Cartwright shares the proactive mental and physical approach of the Athletic Mind Attitude (AMA) in dealing with the challenges of adversity, illness, and aging.  AMA is a positive philosophical mind-set that adapts sport principles, routines, and rituals to one's lifestyle.  Aging, Health, and the Athletic Mind Attitude - A Game Plan for Aging and Health Challenges is a common-sense resource about effort, choice, and being an active player and not a passive fan.  A survey taken by competitive senior athletes and their wise words are included in this book.

"I have senior friends who have pacemakers, who have been through chemotherapy, have lower back problems, even bad knees, who continue to play tournament softball.  They are not going to quit!  They are not going to give in without a fight."  71-year old male.

"Don't get suckered into the common health beliefs on aging.  You can start being an athlete at any age."  55-year old female.

"I may not live any longer, but my wife says I look better in my cycling outfit."  75-year old male.
